Two Causes of Metabolic Acidosis

  1. Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) – Excess production of ketoacids due to insulin deficiency.

  2. Lactic acidosis – Accumulation of lactic acid from tissue hypoxia (e.g., shock, severe anemia).
