Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B₅)

  • Function: Component of Coenzyme A and acyl carrier protein — essential for metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins via acetyl-CoA and fatty acid synthesis.

  • Sources: Egg yolk, liver, whole grains, meat, legumes.

  • RDA (Adults): ~5 mg/day.

  • Deficiency (rare): Causes burning feet syndrome, fatigue, irritability.

  • Water-soluble vitamin; lost in refining processes.
